It was during that seminar that the VEV members met Steve Mariotti, an experienced businessman and founder of NFTE USA. Mr. Mariottiís new concept for helping disadvantaged youth improve their lives struck a responsive chord with the VEV members and they decided to launch NFTE Belgium in 1998. Since that time NFTE Belgium has steadily grown in size and impact. Today, the organization operates from Vilvorde (north of Brussels), employing four full-time people and about 15 certified trainers. NFTEís mission is to teach entrepreneurship to low-income youth, helping them to become economically productive members of society. The program focuses on the improvement of academic, business, technological and general life skills. To successfully operate this program, NFTE Belgium counts on the financial support of the local private sector as well as the guidance and support of its Board of Directors. Through the added resources of the NFTE volunteer network, the program receives vital assistance from loyal and enthusiastic volunteers who come from various backgrounds. .
